2 c. sifted flour, 2 tsp. baking powder, 3/4 - 1 tsp. ginger, 1/8 tsp. cloves, 2/3 c. sugar,, 2/3 c. light or dark molasses, 3/4 c. boiling water, 3/4 c. salt, 1/4 tsp. soda, 3/4 tsp. cinnamon, 1/2 c. shortening, 2 eggs

Directions:
Sift together flour, salt, baking powder, soda, and spice. Cream together sugar and shortening. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Add Molasses, beating constantly, scrape sides of bowl. Blend in flour, add water, mix until smooth. Pour into 8 or 9 inch square pan. Bake at 350 for 35- 40 min.. Serve warm with whipped cream.
