1 c. shortening, 2 c. flour, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1 tsp. soda, 1 c. brown or white sugar, or 1/2 and 1/2, 2 c. quick oatmeal, 1/2 c. sour milk
FILLING: 1/2 c. sugar, 2 Tbl. flour, 1 c. ground dates or raisins, 1/2 c. warm water, 1/2 c. ground nuts

Cream sugar and shortening, add eggs, flour, salt, soda, and oatmeal alternately with milk. Roll thin, cut with cutter and bake at 350 until light tan. Mix filling in pan, cook until thick, stirring constantly. Cool and spread inbetween cookies.
