2/3 c. soft shortening, 1/2 c. sugar, 1 egg, 1 1/2c. flour 1/2 tsp. salt, 6 oz. pkg chocolate chips, 1/2 c. brown sugar (packed), 1 tsp. vanilla, 1/2 tsp. soda, 1/2 c. chopped nuts

Heat oven to 375 (quick method). Mix shortening, sugar, eggs, and vanilla thoroughly. Measure flour by dip, level, pour method. Mix flour, soda and salt. Mix well, add chips and nuts. With teaspoon drop dough on ungreased baking sheet.

For chocolate chip bars use this same recipe, spread dough into 9x13 pan and bake 20-25 min. Makes 48 bars
